MR Angiography (MRA)

MRA is a special type of Magnetic Resonance imaging used to evaluate blood vessels or the vascular system.

If your doctor suspects you may have narrowing or other abnormalities of the arteries or veins, MRA can often visualize them. This technique is used to image the arteries of the brain, carotid arteries (neck arteries), the aortic arch, the abdominal aorta, renal arteries and vessels of the extremities.

MRA is safe and accurate. MRA is an alternative to more invasive procedures that are also used to evaluate the arteries such as angiography. MRA uses the injection of x-ray dye directly into blood vessels, usually with a catheter inserted into the artery in the upper thigh.
